These are the earliest surviving pieces of the College’s chapel plate and are of typical Jacobean form. They replaced a single chalice and paten recorded in the Elizabethan inventories. According to Charles Oman, the gilding is later.

Mitchell (Silversmiths in Elizabethan and Stuart London) records two occurrences of this mark (a communion cup dated 1617/18 and a goblet dated 1621/2). It is possibly that of Robert Profit (free 1595, died c. 1622).
