Dr John Taylor was born at Petworth. He was a Scholar of Winchester College, 1717-24; Fellow of New College, Oxford, 1724-50, and Fellow of Winchester College, 1750-77. He built an extension to Sick House and left legacies for the improvement of Scholars’ Commons.
