Edward Stanley (1598-1642?) was born in Chichester. He was a Scholar of Winchester College, 1610-16; Fellow of New College, 1618-23; Headmaster of Winchester College, 1627-42, and a chaplain to King Charles I.
This portrait is listed in the 1734 inventory of the Warden’s Gallery.
