Andrew Browne Cunningham, Viscount Cunningham of Hyndhope (1883-1963) entered the Royal Navy in 1898. He became Admiral, 1941; Naval Commander in Chief Expeditionary Force, North Africa, 1942; Commander in Chief Mediterranean, 1943; Admiral of the Fleet, 1943; First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff, 1943-1946.
