James Paley Sabben-Clare (1941-2017) was a Scholar of Winchester College, 1954-1960; Scholar of New College, Oxford, 1960-1964; Assistant Master at Marlborough College, 1964-1968; Assistant Master, Winchester College, 1968-1969; Head of Classics, 1969-1979; Second Master, 1979-1985; Headmaster, 1985-2000.
