GUNNER’S HOLE ON THE RIVER ITCHEN, early 20th century

Gunner’s Hole was used as the school swimming pool from 1872. A section of the River Itchen, it was donated to the school by the Reverend William Gunner (College, 1824-1830, Chaplain, 1839-1859) who lived at Blackbridge House. Swimming stopped there when the PE Centre and pool were built in the 1960s.
