The designer Reginald Gleadowe (1888-1924) was drawing master at Winchester from 1923 to 1939. This cup was one of several pieces commissioned from the legacy of Oswald Simpkin (Warden, 1932-36), along with Si32 and Si33.
Gleadowe described the cup as: ‘A tall cup and cover, of fine hammered silver, parcel-gilt and gilded inside. Of Lily or Lotus form, with ten gilded sepals on calyx, stand and cover. The stem ten-sided, with a slight twist.’
Exhibited: Exhibition of Modern Silverwork, Goldsmith’s Hall, July 1938 (p. 19, no. 83 in the catalogue).
Provenance: Commissioned by the College from the legacy of Sir Oswald Simpkin (Warden, 1932-36).
