A list of items bequeathed by Montague Rendall to Winchester describes this piece rather inaccurately as a terracotta statue of a boy by Giambologna, but a photograph of the cast at Butley Priory (Rendall’s home in retirement) confirms the identification.
Provenance: Said to have been purchased in Bologna; bequeathed to Winchester College by Montague Rendall (Headmaster, 1911-24), 1950
