Phillip Deedes (College, 1858-64) was the father of General Charles Parker Deedes (Sergeant’s House, 1893-97).  A letter from Herbert Chitty (Bursar, 1903-40) to General Deedes in 1944 was folded inside the back of the frame (the letter is now in the College Archives).  It refers to his time at Winchester, the Chapel restoration, the school dress, and his failing health.
