Athenian Red-Figure, near the Ambrosios Painter, 515-500 BC
Painted terracotta (h. 5.1 cm, w. 6.8 cm)
This fragment is from the interior of a drinking cup. Not enough is preserved to decipher the scene depicted, though the man is wearing a himation and an ivy wreath, and may be carrying a drinking horn, so it is possible that this vase shows a symposium scene. Part of an inscription with the letters ‘XI’ is to the left of the man’s head.
